SwanCon Movie Screenings

In recent months SwanCon screenings have been getting extremely poor turnouts, to the point where the last screening actually lost money. This is counter productive, not to mention very frustrating for the organisers. We have two more screenings booked for this year ("A Scanner Darkly" on 1st December and "Eragon" on 15th December). Depending on turnout, we will decide whether to continue running screenings after these. If you wish screenings to continue, come along and support us.

That being said, our next screening is "A Scanner Darkly", based on Philip K. Dick's novel by the same name.

Swancon Academic Program Call for Papers

A quick reminder that SwanCon 32 is still seeking submissions for the Academic Programming Stream. Submissions are encouraged from undergraduates, postgraduates and professionals in all areas on topics relating to the theme of Inconceivable!

The full call for papers is available online. Assistance is available for how to write a paper submission if needed.

Any questions can be sent to the Academic Programmer at academic@swancon.com

Next screening - "The Prestige"

Starring Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman.

The quick synopsis: At the turn of the 19th century two stage magicians develop an intense rivalry over their craft.

When: Friday 17th November, starting at 6:30pm.
Where: Belmont Reading Cinemas.
Cost: $10.

Book your ticket by emailing the committee or leaving a comment to this entry.

"Vote Against" is now available.

On the panels page, you now have the ability to "Vote Against" entries with the click of a button.

Remember, this should only be used with panels you think are a completely bad idea - the ones that just won't work. Don't vote against something just because you wouldn't attend it.

Open Programming Meeting No. 2

The second Open Programming Meeting for Swancon 2007 is coming up, details as follows...

When: Sunday, Nov 5th, starting at 2pm.
Where: The Moon Cafe, 323 William St Northbridge.

If you have panel ideas to contribute, but can't make the meeting, remember that you can submit your ideas through the panel submission page, as well as recommend panelists and vote for your favourites.

The more people we have contributing, the more quality ideas we'll have to work with, so please get involved!

Next screening - "The Children of Men"

You are invited to attend the next Swancon movie screening!

Starring Clive Owen, Julianne Moore and Michael Caine, "The Children of Men" is based off the novel of the same name by P.D. James.

The story envisages a world one generation from now that has fallen into anarchy on the heels of an infertility defect in the population. The world's youngest citizen has just died at 18, and humankind is facing the likelihood of its own extinction.

Belmont Reading Cinemas
Friday 20th October, at 7:00pm.
$10.

Book by emailing committee or leaving a comment.

"The Fountain" screening cancelled!

The upcoming Swancon 32 screening of "The Fountain" has been cancelled, as the film's Australian release date has been pushed back. We will screen the film when it is released (looking like January, at this stage).

The next screening will be announced shortly.

Progress Report 1

Progress Report 1 is now available here.

Panel Submission Form

There is now a link on the sidebar to a Panel Submission Form where you can, funnily enough, submit ideas for panels. Please suggest panellists as well if you can think of any, as this will help us out a lot.

Even if you haven't got any cool ideas, you can view the previously submitted panels. If there are any that you like the idea of, hit the Vote button. This will give us an idea of what people want this year in the way of panels.

If you see a panel that looks like it would be a lot of fun to be on, why not volunteer for it? Feel free to volunteer others as well! :P
