SwanCon 32: Inconceivable! is proud to announce its FanVid Competition. What’s a fanvid? A fanvid is what you get when you chop up your favourite show or movie, mix it around in your computer’s editing software (or with a pair of scissors if you’re old school!), glue it back together to the beat of your favourite song, and show it off to all your friends. Well, we’re your friends, and we want to see what you’ve made!
Haven’t shown off a vid before? That’s okay. Not only do we have a General Award where your vid can test its mettle against all-comers, we also have several distinct categories so your vids can duke it out in the appropriate class. We have the Rarities, for vids featuring those shows or characters who never get as much attention in fandom as you’d like. We have the Romantics for all you cuddle-bunnies and slashers out there to prove that the subtext is really text! The Experimental category is for those of you who like to stretch your vidding muscles (and maybe mess with our heads at the same time). Storytellers is the category for those who like to make vids showing us something about your favourite character or show. And debuting this year is the Challenge category. These are vids that, in some way meet, define or exemplify the idea of ‘Inconceivable!’
- Fanvids are defined as a video presentation, made by a non-professional, using source material from existing media. This includes, but is not limited to, television shows, anime and movies.
- This competition is open to all non-professional fanvid makers who are at least supporting members of SwanCon 2007. The entry must not have been previously entered in any fanvid contests or have been the recipient of any award.
- Only the maker(s) of the fanvid is eligible to enter that vid.
- At the beginning of EACH FANVID, before the vid begins, must be a title card which contains at least:
- the title of the vid
- the full name of the entrant as stated on the entry form (see Rule 3)
- a contact email for the entrant as stated on the entry form
- the fandom(s)/sources the vid uses
- the title and artist of the sound/music/backing track
- the category it is being entered into
- a disclaimer disavowing ownership of any copyrighted source material used, and that no infringement is intended.
This title card is for the purposes of classification and judging, and will itself not be judged as part of the entry, so please make this element readable as opposed to pretty but illegible. Any fanvid which does not contain this card will be considered automatically ineligible.
- All entries must be submitted on physical media, either CD or DVD, in an acceptable file format (see #7). All disks need to be labeled with the entrants name and email address. No disks will be returned, so please keep a copy of your entry. Electronic submissions will only be accepted by express permission of the organizers on proof of real hardship in submitting a physical entry.
- Multiple entries are permitted up to five entries from a single entrant, and can be submitted on a single disk. However, each individuall FANVID must be accompanied by an entry form. (For example, if you submit three fanvid entries, you can submit them on one CD, but it needs three separate entry forms.)
- ENTRY FORMATS: .ram and .rm, .mov, .wmv are acceptable file extensions.
- Each entry will be nominated for one category for judging and exhibition. The judges reserve the right, in the event of insufficient entries, to combine two or more categories together. All fanvids will also be considered for a general award regardless of category. Selection of category is at the entrants' discretion. If no category is nominated, the entrant will be considered for the general award only.
- The judges' decision is final, and no correspondence will be entered into. The judges reserve the right to deliver a verdict of No Award Given for any or all categories.
- Entries must be delivered to GPO Box G429, Perth, WA, 6841
